This is an impressionistic piece, full of lush harmonies and ‘floaty’ textures. The piece opens with a solo cornet who introduces the main theme, which is then handed on through the band, with solos from euphonium, flugel horn and tenor horn, before the solo cornet reprises the opening motif. Although not technically the most difficult piece, it is nevertheless a real test of any band’s musicianship, offering opportunities for some expressive solo playing.
