Morning from Peer Gynt (Saxhorn Series)

The Saxhorn Series is a collection of pieces — some original, some arrangements of well-known existing pieces — that came about after a conversation with Katrina Marzella, who runs a Saxhorn festival dedicated to tenor and baritone horns. This is a setting of Grieg’s beautiful ‘Morning’, from Peer Gynt. It is at the lower end of the intermediate level and could easily be approached by players at around Grade 5 standard. It requites a lot of attention to detail in sustaining the air flow, balancing the sound and making the most of the dynamic contrasts. So, as well as being musically rewarding to play it’s also a great piece for working on your ensemble skills.
