In Pacem Aeterna

This is a partner piece to ‘Elegy’ and was composed to for Remembrance Day. It is subtitled ‘For the Fallen’ and its uses fragments of melodies closely associated with the First World War, such as ‘It’s A Long Way To Tipperary’ and the hymn tunes ‘How Great Thou Art’ and ‘O God Our Help In Ages Past’. But running through the piece is the constant seam of arguably the greatest of all hymn tunes, ‘Abide With Me’. The piece features two off-stage cornets who play fanfare figures throughout. The piece ends with the off-stage cornets and a lone solo cornet echoing fragments of ‘The Last Post’. PLEASE NOTE: this is a temporary recording with audio straight from the computer.
