I Can’t Breathe

In 2020 two world-changing events coincided within a couple of months of each other. The first was the murder of George Floyd which, in turn, led to the global Black Lives Matter movement. The second was the outbreak of a worldwide pandemic that attacked our ability to breathe. George Floyd’s plaintive cry “I Can’t Breathe”  serves as the entire text for this setting for SATB, solo oboe and strings.
