The Twelve Keys of Christmas
This is a Christmas suite in 3 movements. It’s called “The Twelve Keys of Christmas” and it goes through — guess what — 12 key signatures and uses about a dozen well-known carols.
It also quotes about 30 other tunes, some fairly obvious and some very well hidden. So, you could play ‘spot the tune’ with the audience.
I’m going to produce choral parts so, if you were to do a shared concert with a choir, the main carol sections could be sung, which would be very effective.
The last thing to say is that some of the tunes I have hidden are only vaguely connected to Christmas. So, at one point you hear the theme to ‘Star Wars’ — the star of Bethlehem (!) At another point there’s a reggae version of ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’ that is a ‘mash-up’ with Bobby McFerrin’s “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” — a perfect Christmas sentiment if ever there was one.
