Lullaby for Euphonium solo and Brass Band
This piece exists in various forms: cello and orchestra, choir, brass band. Here is a special arrangement I made for my good friend, the renowned Euphonium virtuoso Steven Mead.
Steven often gets asked to play pieces that are technically very demanding, which is understandable because he is such a prodigious exponent of the instrument. But I wanted to celebrate his beautiful warm tone and superb musicality. I wanted to give him long, lyrical lines so that he could give full rein to his expressive side.
In this recording I played the solo part — Steven has yet to perform or record it. In fact I played all the parts on this demo, tracking them up in my studio, one on a part. So, this won’t have the full band sound, but should suffice to give an idea of how the piece might sound with a great band and a virtuoso like Steven playing it.
